Centre to conduct survey to implement Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojna

Union Ministry for Urban Poverty Alleviation had implemented Awas Yojana for the poor people in many cities.

Sirsa: Union Minister Kumari Selja on Monday said the Centre will conduct a survey to implement the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana in Haryana and fund has been allocated to state government for the purpose.

The Union Ministry for Urban Poverty Alleviation had implemented Awas Yojana for the poor people in many cities under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and now Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana would be implemented, she told reporters here.

The ministry has allotted fund to the state government for the survey, she said.

On the basis of the survey, it would be implemented in all cities of the state, thereby providing shelter to the poor, Selja, the Union Minister of Tourism, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, said.

Referring to the farmers` stir in Uttar Pradesh`s Bhatta Parsaul, the minister said the matter of land acquisition fell within the jurisdiction of the state government and as such state governments were free to formulate their own acquisition policies.
