Centre to launch new fertiliser subsidy scheme

Madurai: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers MK Azhagiri has said the Centre would launch a scheme that would enable farmers get fertiliser subsidy directly.

Distributing welfare assistance to agricultural workers under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourers Social Safety and Welfare Scheme here Friday night, he said, "the direct fertiliser subsidy scheme" would be introduced initially in two districts, including Madurai, in Tamil Nadu.

The minister said the Tamil Nadu government's Social Safety Scheme for Farmers had benefited 4.08 lakh farm workers and financial assistance to the tune of Rs 299.21 crore had been distributed so far. Besides Rs 83.6 crore had been given to those belonging to Adidravida and backward class under the scheme.
