New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday asked voluntary
organisations to work as "catalysing agents" in bringing about
convergence of NREGA schemes with various other development
programmes.
Addressing the 18th meeting of the general body of
Council for CAPART here, Rural Development Minister C P Joshi
asked the voluntary organisations to give special focus on
backward regions of the country.
"Voluntary organisations, working in remote and rural
areas, should work as catalysing agents to bring out
convergence with NREGA and other development schemes of the
government, especially in the backward regions of the
country," Joshi said.
The Ministry of Rural Development has circulated
guidelines for convergence of NREGA schemes with other
development schemes of the government to achieve synergy
among various rural development and poverty alleviation
programmes.
The ministry has also prepared joint guidelines with
the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for the convergence
of the latter's schemes with the schemes run under NREGA.
