Tokyo, July 08: On a day when its Left partners withdrew support, the Indian government has received backing from unexpected quarters on the Indo-US nuclear deal.
The Foreign Secretary said on Tuesday that China has expressed its willingness to support the nuclear deal. The development came after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Chinese President Hu Jintao earlier this morning in Japan, where he is due to attend the G8 meeting.
China is believed to have expressed its willingness to help India in getting the nuclear deal through the IAEA and the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
It is ironical that the unexpected support from the Communist neighbour came on a day when the government’s Communist partners decided to withdraw support.
