New Delhi: The CISF is reviewing security arrangements at nuclear installations and other critical infrastructure along the western and eastern coasts of the country in view of terror threats to these assets.

The security checks are being done to ascertain threat perception and risk analysis of vital installations including nuclear plants. Threats from both external and internal sources are being reviewed, a senior Home Ministry officer said.

The CISF is presently guarding nuclear installations, space establishments, seaports, power plants and sensitive government buildings along coastal cities.

The Centre recently had said there are reports that nuclear installations of the country are on the target of the terrorists.

"In view of the prevailing security scenario, the nuclear installations continue to remain prime target of the terrorist outfits," Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told Lok Sabha on December 1.

The security audit will also ascertain the necessary changes in deployment strength of security personnel and requirement of additional security gadgets, the officer said. The officer, however, refused to give the exact number of installations covered under the security audit.

An internal intelligence gathering system will also be suggested to managements wherever required, after evaluating the existing systems and activities of various groups working at the establishment, the officer added.

Sensitising of the management at these installations will also be done.

The help of defence forces is also taken besides the deployment of CISF men for providing air defence cover in some of the vital nuclear installations, the officer said.
