Hyderabad: Citizens have a responsibility
towards promotion and attainment of social harmony, which they
need to undertake proactively rather than passively, with a
spirit of seeking justice and achieving fraternity, Vice
President M Hamid Ansari said here today.
"A diverse and stratified society like ours requires
social harmony for its cohesion, and needs a scientific spirit
and excellence to seek and attain all round development. To
promote and attain these is among the principal duties of
citizens which they need to undertake proactively rather than
passively," Hamid Ansari said.
Delivering the convocation address of the Twelfth
Convocation of Univesity of Hyderabad here, the Vice President
said "It is the task for the citizen body and particularly
students who are graduating, as they bear a special
responsibility towards promotion of harmony."
He said the Constitution of India is one of the best
examples of a constitution that blends the rights and duties
of citizenship harmoniously and has stood the test of time and
has been widely acclaimed.
Earlier, Ansari presented Honorary Doctorate degrees
to PM`s Economic Advisory Council chairman C Rangarajan,
Mohammed Khan Shaharyar, eminent Kuchipudi dancers Raja Reddy
and Radha Reddy.
