Cong, RLD stage walkout from UP Legislative Council

To protest against the lathicharge on state government employees during a protest here recently, Congress and RLD on Wednesday staged a walkout from Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

here recently, Congress and RLD today staged a walkout from
Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

The issue was raised by the Congress members through
adjournment motion during Zero Hour, who demanded a debate on
lathicharge on the employees during a protest on January 21.

Leader of Congress Legislative Party Naseeb Pathan
termed the incident as "barbaric" and alleged that "police
even opened fire at the employees".

Leader of the Opposition Ahmad Hasan said police
misbehaved with the women protestors and lathicharged them.

BJP member Nepal Singh said District Magistrate
Lucknow Amit Ghosh even slapped an employee on the second day
of the incident.

Leader of the House Swami Prasad Maurya said police
was forced to used mild force after the employees turned
violent and damaged public property.

He said later a meeting was held between the trade
union leaders and senior officials on the directives of
Chief Minister Mayawati, in which it was assured that all
the problems of the state employees will be resolved.
