Chennai: Congress will go it alone in next
month`s local body polls in Tamil Nadu which will see a
triangular fight with UPA ally DMK and ruling AIADMK in the
fray.
"Congress in Tamil Nadu has decided to contest the local
body elections on its own," TNCC president K V Thangkabalu
told reporters today after a consultative meeting of the party
held in the presence of AICC secretary K B Krishnamoorthy.

Leaders, including former TNCC president E V K S
Elangovan, MPs N S V Chithan and J M Haroon and others
participated in the meeting held at TNCC headquarters
Satyamoorthy Bhavan.

The party would start receiving applications from
aspirants from September 18-20.
Party state high command would release the final list,
Thangkabalu said.

Despite being a key ally of Congress since 2004 Lok Sabha
polls, DMK chief M Karunanidhi had announced going it alone
for the local body polls due October, while insisting that
this would not affect ties with the national party as the
alliance was meant for Parliamentary and Assembly polls only.
