Congmen throng airport to pay last respects when Arjun Singh

The body of former Union Minister Arjun Singh reached the Bamrauli airport on the outskirts of the city from where his mortal remains were taken to his native place in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh for the last rites.

Allahabad: The body of former Union
Minister Arjun Singh, who died on Friday, reached the Bamrauli
airport on the outskirts of the city today from where his
mortal remains were taken to his native place in neighbouring
Madhya Pradesh for the last rites.

A large number of Congress leaders, led by the party`s
Uttar Pradesh unit chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, state
vice-president Shekhar Bahuguna and city unit chief and Mayor
Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh visited the airport to pay their
last respect to the late leader.
The Congress leaders also recalled Singh`s "long and deep
relationship" with the city, in particular his association
with the Allahabad University where he had studied and which
got the status of a central varsity when he was the Union HRD
Minister.
Singh`s body was airlifted, by a special aircraft, to his
native place Churhat in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh where
cremation ceremony is likely to take place tomorrow.
