‘Congress angry over Khurshid’s Batla remarks’ Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: Union Law Minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s remarks that Sonia Gandhi had cried on seeing photographs of the Batla House encounter, have infuriated not just the opposition but the party itself.

Sources said the party leadership is miffed with Khurshid for dragging the party chief into an unnecessary controversy.

At an election meeting in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on Thursday, Khurshid said, "I was not a minister at that time but still took the issue of the Batla encounter to Sonia Gandhi and she had tears in her eyes." The minister also said she had asked him not to show her the pictures.

While Khurshid raised the controversial encounter during the election meeting in an apparent bid to woo Muslim voters, he yesterday backtracked after widespread backlash asserting he did not say that Sonia cried and he had only stated that she became "emotional".

"You have twisted my words out of context. I didn't say she (Sonia Gandhi) cried, I said she became emotional. She said the matter should be probed," Khurshid told reporters.

According to sources, the Congress believes the encounter issue should not have been raked up when the polls are underway in Uttar Pradesh as it could lead to negative reactions from the voter.

So far, the Congress has openly endorsed the government’s view on the encounter, saying it was “absolutely genuine” and that there was no need for a judicial inquiry.

Significantly, Khurshid made the controversial remarks on a day when the Election Commission censured him for violating the model code of conduct by announcing a 9% sub-quota for Muslims.

Sonia Ji,is congress gone bankrupt of ideas, and good people to stoop so low on issues like secularism and national security. Madam, it is high time to act against people who are deliberately damaging the secular fibre of this nation. If congress is sincere to nation it should scrap the policy of reservation based on cast and religion. If their is any need of resrvation, It is for the economically backword and most deprived. Please do not divide countrymen on the basis of sc/st/obc/minorities, just to rule them

We Indians are responsible for such coward persons enjoying higher positions, power though not at all deserve it.Again and again Salman Khurshid has shown his anti-india stand,he was lawyer of banned organisation SIMI,he was the person who forced to pass ENEMY property act by which land in India belonging to muslims of Pakistan before partion has been given back by Goverment Of India. He is the guy who spoke about 9% reservation to muslims. At least please awake now Christians are very less in number in India,Why they don`t have quota, muslims are backwards because peoples like salman khurshid who are not loyal to country spent their effort in anti-national things rather on their own developement.

Pathetic. They can stoop to such level for votes. I wonder what cud be situation of family of police officer who was killed. When it is proven beyond doubt that encounter was genuine and those killed were really terrorist, why muslims should vote for pepl who try to term them innocent. Then they say hindus are biased. Go to hell if u support terrorist, just because they belong to ur religion.

First impression was that she cried, the next was she became emotional. Both says that she had emtions to express over the killing of the terrorists. Well, that speaks of everything about Congress` policy on terrorism. No wonder Italian mafia is on the spoof.

This Minister will not hesitate to sell off his country to prove that his loyalties lie with his religion and not with his country. If the Minister`s canvassing for votes by implying religious bias in the Batla House anti terrorist encounter by the Delhi Police is not a blatant example of communal politics, what is? And Madamji, by now reacting to these utterances by your senior partyman, you are actually acquesing to his utterances.

``she became emotional. She said the matter should be probed,`` Can you explain what does it mean? I think it is one and the same thing. Please don`t try to make us fool and have courage to stand by your words.
