Congress, BJP trash Anna’s remarks on voters Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: A day after Anna Hazare said he would not contest elections because voters easily get influenced by money and liquor, two major political parties – the Congress and the BJP – have reacted to the social activist’s remarks.

Hazare had yesterday said, “I feel I should contest elections, but if I do so, I will lose my deposit... I will not do so.” He added: “Voters are not alert. An informed voter is the crux of democracy. In villages, even today if a Rs 500 note is waved in front of people they will vote for you, and a drunkard will vote for you if he is promised alcohol.”

To this the Congress party said Hazare was only contradicting himself.

"This is a contradictory statement. At one place it's told that around 125 crore people are with us, and then making such comments. I have been saying this from the very beginning that this is a wrong way to fight against corruption. There is a need to improve the society. We all, right from the bottom to the top, need to fight against corruption," said party spokesperson Rashid Alvi.

"I am not saying that politics should not be freed from corruption. But we have to fight this battle right from the bottom then only the society will be free from corruption. We respect every voter and it is not right to put blame like this on any voter," he added.

The BJP meanwhile reacted by saying that the remarks were Hazare’s personal opinion, and emphasized that it believes people of the country vote with full honesty and integrity.

"This might be his personal opinion. The Bharatiya Janata Party responsibly believes that people of India vote with full honesty and whenever they want to they have the capability to overthrow big governments from power," said party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

"People vote with full integrity. Few persons might be falling for money and alcohol, but vast majorities of people vote with full honesty even today. And the BJP salutes the voters of the country," he added.

When asked to comment on some of the members of Team Anna willing to fight the election battle, Congress’ Alvi said: "As per the Constitution, every individual has the right to contest elections. And if Annaji himself or any of this team members want to contest the elections then the Constitution gives them this right."

Is it the reason, why politicians do not want to spend on education and inclusive growth. Otherwise, you will never find lots of media channel funneled to strengthen corrupt leaders public Image. Now it is a fact that Media, BJP are under collusion with Black money holders and corrupt leaders trying hard to kill public perception.

Annaji is 100% right. Very very Honest Social Activist Bismarque Dias lost the election to the Very very Corrupt Congress Candidate in Goa. Voters were always with the Bismarque Dias shouting slogan against the Corrupt Congress Candidate. Same Voters rejected Bismarque Dias and voted that same Corrupt Congress Candidate just for Money & Liquor. Very Sad to Bismarque Dias who always stood by their people and same people rejected him just for a little money and liquor.

Anna`s comments reflect the disdain in which anna gang hold Indian democracy. Gang anna members have their own different agenda. They pretend to fight against corruption. But now their hypocrisy has sufficiently stood exposed. Anna is a domesticated parrot of Kejriwal. Therefore he utters a few dialogues taught by Kejriwal. The people and media should not give much attention to this rank medievalist who is against all types of modern systems and institutions and therefore tries to denigrate Parliamentary Democracy in India. He wishes to replicate his model of `Maratha Khap Panchayat` in Ralegansiddhi at the national level.

Why blame the politicians for this. People have made elections as a mode of earning money. No vote without money. So politicians are just doing today what the voter is demanding.

Every political party under the sun in India wants to grab power through muscle and money power which is a fact written on the wall. In the guise of serving the people they wear a facade. We have no option but to elect a leader who is highly corrupt or less corrupt. Things will not change much unless there is a sea change in electoral reforms. People with shady background should be debarred from contesting.

Agreed. Voting is going against Voters in each Constituency. Corrupt voters voting against non-corrupt voters. Money is distributed early in the morning on the Election Day by their supporters. Money and Liquor plays a major role in electing Corrupt Candidates. Only RIGHT TO REJECT button can ensure that only Honest or Less Corrupt Candidate is won and pull out the Corrupt Candidates from Race with the Right To Reject button on EVM.

There is no political correctness in what Anna has said. But he found the expression that of a common man in a remote village, who cannot simply react to such a situation because of fear for life. But the leadership should fight against such tendencies.

Anna has not stated anything wrong. The electoral reforms were brought about after people like Sheshan made herculean efforts in the face of stiff opposition from politicians belonging to all rank and file. How elections were held is known to all. Despite all sorts of watch dogs in place even today fighting an election means spending on voters immediately before elections. Everything is going on the sly. BJP and Congressmen may diasagree and deny. But, these very people who are trying to prove Anna wrong are involved in all sorts of illegal activities defying all electoral rules. Even now electoral rules are being flouted by most of the political parties albeit not openly.
