New Delhi: With the Opposition on the
offensive, senior Congress leaders on Thursday night deliberated on the
strategy on ways and means to counter the campaign in the
light of party chief Sonia Gandhi`s five-point plan of
action.
The implementation of the action plan unveiled by
Gandhi during the party Plenary last month was reviewed at the
meeting of the party general secretaries.

AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said it was
a review meeting which took stock of implementation of
Gandhi`s directives on regarding establishing monitoring
committees in states for overseeing implementation of UPA`s
flagship programmes and other issues. Gandhi had said that the
DCCs will give feedback to the committee.

Gandhi had also called for formation of coordination
committees between the government and the PCC in states where
Congress is in power and between PCC and CLP where the party
is in opposition.
The meeting also reviewed the party preparation in
different election going states. The Congress President had
also directed the states to hold at least one delegate
convention in a year and implement austerity and simplicity
measures.

Dwivedi said that the AICC has already written to the
states on all these counts and the meeting today reviewed how
far it is being implemented.

Those, who attended the meeting apart from Dwivedi,
included AICC general secretary in-charge for Andhra Pradesh M
Veerappa Moily, AICC general secretary in-charge for
Chhattisgarh V Narayanaswamy, senior leaders Motilal Vora and
Satyavrat Chaturvedi.

Top party leaders Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram and
Jairam Ramesh huddled into a separate meeting with AICC
general secretaries to chalk out plans for the proposed
Chintan Shivir of the party, which was also announced by
Gandhi during the plenary.

Dwivedi said that the issue was discussed in the
meeting but a decision on where to hold the Shivir is yet to
be taken.
