Congress not mentally prepared to fight corruption: Rajnath

Patna: Alleging that the Congress was
not "mentally prepared" to fight corruption, senior BJP leader
Rajnath Singh on Saturday said he would lend "unconditional support"
to the Lokpal bill being framed on the basis of consensus.

"Congress is not mentally prepared on the contentious
issue of fighting corruption... it is evident from the
statement of a general secretary of the party who has raked up
the controversy over corruption charges against some of the
civil society members in the joint drafting committee for
Lokpal," Singh told a press conference.
Stating that corruption was the "biggest" issue the
country was witnessing this time, he said his "party would
lend support unconditionally to the Lokpal bill framed on the
basis of consensus."

In reply to a question, Singh said the BJP had consensus
over the issue of corruption and firm in its resolve to fight
it tooth and nail.
"But, unfortunately, the Congress doesn`t have consensus
evident from its president saying something on the issue of
corruption, while her general secretary is (saying) something
else," he said.

"The allegations by the Congress general secretary
involving the civil society members are unfortunate... we
think that sinister attempts are being made by certain
quarters to puncture the campaign against corruption," Singh
said.

"Let the Lokpal bill be framed and implemented first
instead of involving in charges and counter-allegations," he
said adding that the issue of corruption must be left to
the court to decide.

"Who is corrupt and wrong... it is a matter to be
decided by a court of law," he said.

"We want a system be developed first and implemented to
minimise corruption," the former BJP president said.

Singh said it was unfortunate that the UPA which is in
power for the last six years had failed to do anything to
check corruption.
