Hyderabad: The ruling Congress is to be
blamed squarely for the turmoil during the winter session of
Parliament over the 2G spectrum scam, the CPI alleged here
on Tuesday.

Stating that the demand of opposition parties for a Joint
Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the scam is
justified, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan alleged that
Congress did not agree for a probe by JPC because it did not
want the facts to come out on the issue.
The investigations conducted by JPCs into various issues
earlier had brought out several facts to light, he said.

Referring to Congress President Sonia Gandhi`s reported
remarks that the institution of the Prime Minister should not
be denigrated, Bardhan said former US President Bill Clinton
and leaders of other countries had faced proceedings conducted
by their Parliaments over allegations of various nature.

Speaking at the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP)
meeting yesterday, Gandhi has reportedly criticised the
opposition parties for their reported plan to summon the Prime
Minister if a JPC is constituted to go into the 2G spectrum
issue.
Alleging that the BJP adopted double standards on
corruption, Bardhan said the party demanded JPC on the 2G
spectrum but was silent on corruption by its government in
Karnataka.

CPI had raised the 2G spectrum issue in 2008 itself with
the party`s deputy general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy writing
a letter to the Prime Minister, Bardhan said.

The party would continue its fight against corruption in
association with non-BJP and non-Congress parties, he said.

The CPI`s national council meetings would be held here
for three days from today.
