New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday steered clear
of Home Minister P Chidambaram`s controversial remarks on
migrants in Delhi, saying that the party has nothing to say on
it after a clarification by the minister himself.
"After Chidambaram`s clarification, I don`t think
there is any need of debate on this issue," said party
spokesman Shakeel Ahmed here.
Chidambaram has clarified that he himself is a migrant
from Tamil Nadu and he did not refer to any state or region or
language or race or religion and everyone who came to work in
Delhi was, in a sense, a migrant, he said.
Ahmed was asked to comment on Chidambaram`s remarks
which sought to blame migrants for crimes in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Congress MP from Sultanpur, Sanjay Singh
expressed concern over "poor policing" in Delhi.
"Only a professional, honest and sincere policing can
check crimes like rape in the national capital," he told
reporters reacting to Chidambaram`s controversial remark.
He categorically stated that there was no such
policing in Delhi.
"Today, the number of people arriving in Delhi is very
high. We should have basic infrastructure and proper
facilities to manage them," Singh said.
