New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday called on sulking DMK chief M Karunanidhi here.

The meeting followed Karunanidhi’s meeting with his daughter Kanimozhi at Tihar Jail earlier Monday.

The DMK MP was lodged in the jail for her role in 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Karunanidhi had also met former communication minister A Raja and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar, who are also lodged in the jail.

Political observers see the meeting between the two leaders as an effort to mend the strain between the two political parties.
The DMK supremo refused to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi during this trip.

"The arrest (of Kanimozhi) is a vendetta against DMK and my family," Karunanidhi had said in an open letter to party cadres in the DMK mouthpiece.
The DMK is the third largest constituent in the UPA coalition, yesterday sent just one representative, parliamentary party chief TR Baalu to attend the UPA-II`s second anniversary dinner hosted at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s residence. None of the six union ministers of the party attended the second anniversary function of the UPA II.

Relations between the DMK and the Congress have sunk to a new low following the arrest of Kanimozhi.
