New Delhi: Amid the raging controversy over the “mystery” CD row involving father-son lawyer duo Shanti and Prashant Bhushan, who represent the Lokpal committee, the junior Bhushan on Sunday claimed that the voices in the CD were genuine but had been picked up from different places.
The audio CD contains alleged conversation, apparently among Bhushan, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and former SP leader Amar Singh about `fixing a judge in Uttar Pradesh for a price`.
The CD further suggests that Shanti Bhushan was allegedly ‘negotiating’ with Mulayam that his son Prashant would file a PIL against UP government for a hefty sum.
Addressing a press conference here in the capital, the senior Supreme Court lawyer said the CD was doctored and that different conversations were mixed. “The whole thing is a cut and paste job," he said.
Bhushan claimed that the forensic analysis done by a US expert George Papcun and Hyderabad-based Truth Labs had shown that the CD has "multiple gaps and signs of electronic editing at very, very critical places".
"Papcun in his initial analysis has said that there are at least six clear signs of doctoring. Different conversations have been put together to try and create an impression that the conversation was genuine," he said.
Claiming that the conversation in the CD dates back to March 2006, Prashant Bhushan said that "virtually all portions" of the conversations of Yadav in the CD have been "bodily lifted" from the 5 year old tapes, which have purported conversations of Amar Singh with various personalities and submitted to Supreme Court by him.
"All parts of the conversation of Yadav have been bodily lifted from the 2006 conversations between Yadav and Singh and transplanted in the CD. The whole conversation in the new CD is fabricated,” Bhushan claimed.
Pointing fingers at Singh, he said, "prima facie, he is involved...my father has never met Amar Singh but in the CD he says Shanti Bhushan is sitting next to him. If there is no editing in that portion of conversation, it will become crystal clear that Amar Singh has involved himself in fabricating this CD."
Prashant said, he will issue a legal notice to Singh for contempt of court and hoped that the Supreme Court will investigate the matter to reach at the "root and bottom" of the conspiracy.
The Lokpal panel member claims that there is a smear campaign to malign him, his father and the Lokpal panel.
Linking the release of the “fake CD” to 2G spectrum scam, Bushan said that an effort was made to de-track the judicial process in 2G case as well as the Amar Sing tape case.
“The timing of the release of the CD seems to suggest that it is an ominous conspiracy to derail the judicial proceedings in 2G scam case with the blessings of powerful people, including corporates and politicians,” he said.
Bhushan also alleged a section of media of being involved in the conspiracy.
