Panaji: Anti-human trafficking initiatives in
Goa will now get support from the corporate world, which has
agreed to rehabilitate victims rescued from the trafficking
magnets.
Addressing reporters here, Goa State Women's Commission
(GSWC) chairman Ezilda Sapeco said that the Goa Chamber of
Commerce and Industries (GCCI), an apex body of industries in
the state, has been roped in as a part of the anti-human
trafficking drive.
"The corporates have decided to help the government and
NGOs for rehabilitation of the victims," she said adding that
GCCI will facilitate the interaction between government and
the corporates.
She added that district collector Mihir Vardhan, during a
recent seminar, has assured that the government will support
any rehabilitation initiative undertaken by the corporates.
GSWC has also decided to form various committees devoted
to anti-human trafficking exercise in the state.
"We will be forming committees that will comprise of
stakeholders like NGOs, government officials, corporates and
others," Sapeco said.
She said several schemes would be implemented for
rescued victims with the help of the state Women and Child
Development department.
The commission is studying the scheme executed by Andhra
Pradesh government, which provides financial benefit for the
trafficked victim.
Sapeco said inbound human trafficking in Goa was posing a
challenge to the law enforcement authorities.
