Chennai: Corruption was one of the evils in
the country that has to be defeated by the `goodness of the
youth`, former President APJ Abdul Kalam said on Wednesday.
"Of course, we have been making significant progress in all
directions. But, also we have many challenges to overcome..
they include corruption, environment degradation and the need
to build a compassionate society," Kalam said while addressing
a function organised by "Samudhayaa" Foundation, an NGO, here.
"These are evils which need to be defeated by the goodness
of the youth," he said.
Observing that these evils arise from the never-ending
greed of `what can I take?,` he said it has to be replaced
with `What can I give?`.
`What can I give?` will make a society which is
compassionate, environment-conscious and in which people care
for each other, he added.
