Bhopal: Claiming that a countdown for the
Congress-led UPA government at the Centre had begun, BJP
General Secretary Anant Kumar said here on Saturday that mid-term
Lok Sabha elections were a possibility after results of
Assembly elections in the five states were out.
"Corruption, 2G scam, CWG, Adarsh Housing scam and black
money had dented the image of the Congress-led UPA Government,
and after the results in the five states are out, the
differences between UPA partners will further deepen leading
to mid-term polls," Kumar said at a press conference here.
Anant, who was here to address the party`s district-level
leaders` workshop, alleged that total money involved in all
the recent scams was over Rs 5.5 lakh crore, and the Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh was silent about the problem.
After the polls in Tamil Nadu, tensions between DMK and
Congress would increase further, leading to the break-up of
the alliance, Kumar said.
The Congress had differences with Trinamool Congress and
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) too; and Communists would be
losing their bastions in West Bengal and Kerala, the BJP
leader claimed.
Rising inflation with no signs of decline was another
major issue, and all this indicated that the country was
heading for mid-term polls, Kumar added.
