Court extends JC of MHA official in jackets scam by 12 days

A Delhi court today extended by 12 days the judicial custody of a senior Home Ministry official and other accused in a scam involving purchase of bullet-proof jackets for central paramilitary forces.

days the judicial custody of a senior Home Ministry official
and other accused in a scam involving purchase of bullet-proof
jackets for central paramilitary forces.

Additional Sessions Judge O P Saini sent MHA official
Radhey Shyam Sharma and R K Gupta, a director of a Delhi-based
company involved in production of defence equipment, to jail
till June 19 when they were produced before him on expiry of
their judicial remand.

Third accused Laveena Gupta, wife of R K Gupta, has
recently been granted an interim bail by the Delhi High Court.
Sharma, an Indian Railway and Engineering Officer of
1984 batch, is accused of accepting Rs 10 lakh as bribe in the
purchase of bullet-proof jackets for central paramilitary
forces.

Sharma, along with R K Gupta and his wife Laveena, both
directors of the company, were booked under various penal
provisions dealing with giving and accepting bribe and
conspiracy.

The MHA official has also been charged with misconduct on
the part of a public servant.

CBI has alleged that Laveena, along with her husband R
K Gupta, gave Rs 10 lakh as bribe to seek favours from Sharma.
