New Delhi: CPI(M) on Monday blamed the Centre for disruption of Parliament over the FDI issue, saying it is "responsible" for the impasse.

"House is not functioning today and the responsibility lies totally with the government. The ball is in the government's court," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters outside Parliament House here.

He said it is the government which has to decide whether they want the House to function or not. "It is the government which wants to avoid Parliament because Parliament wants answer on many issues," he said.

"Any policy decision which has a major bearing on the country and its people cannot be decided without discussing it in Parliament when it is in session. And now government is not willing to discuss it...that is why the disruption," the CPI(M) leader said.

Questioning the motive of the government, Yechury said "Cabinet has decided a contentious issue. This is going to cause immense harm to us, according to international study. All the talks that it will remain in Metro cities are eyewash."

He also ruled out the possibility that the FDI will prevent falling rupee value in international market. "Today the value of rupee is falling. Government hopes that it will boost rupee value and prevent falling rates of rupee in the international market. But it is not going to happen."
