Ranchi: CPI-M will observe March 7 as a
protest day against tax hike in petroleum products by both the
Union and the state governments.
Protest processions, street corner meetings and
burning of effigies would mark the protests, a party release
said here today.
Jharkhand government has recently raised VAT from 15
per cent to 20 per cent, while the union budget has imposed
five per cent custom duty on crude oil and raise in tax on
petrol and diesel.
"The Centre's anti-people steps have been benefitting
the corporate sectors. Rise in petroleum price will have its
impact on essential food items," the release said and demanded
a rollback of all taxes to ease burden on the people 'who are
already reeling under spiralling prices.'
