New Delhi: CPI(M) Tuesday said it will come
out with a considered view on the foreign university bill,
which it has been opposing for the past four years, after
studying the new draft cleared by the Cabinet.
Party General Secretary Prakash Karat said his party
was opposing the government plan to allow foreign universities
to function in the country.
"We have the old draft with us. We have to see the new
draft. We have not seen it, we have not studied it. We will
come up with our views after studying it," Karat told
reporters here.
The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of
Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010, which has been approved by
the Cabinet yesterday, seeks to allow foreign education
providers to set up campuses in the country and offer degrees.
The CPI(M) has earlier opposed the bill, saying it
goes against the principle of social equity.
