Solapur: The Communist Party of India-
Marxist (CPI-M) today threatened a statewide agitation against
the Central Government for soaring prices of essential
commodities.
In a resolution passed at the state-level conference
of the party here, CPM decided to launch a 'Halla Bol'
agitation on March 18 at the Collectorates and tehsil offices
in Maharashtra to draw the Centre's attention toward the
plight of the people, especially the poor.
"If the Central Government fails to roll back the hike
in prices of petroleum products and in bringing down the
prices of the essential commodities, the RPI-Left-led
political front will take out a procession to the Vidhan
Bhavan in Mumbai March 25," the resolution said.
The conference was inaugurated by noted journalist P
Sainath and presided over by former MLA Narsayya Adam. The CPM
meet expressed concern over poor public distribution of food
grain at the ration shops, black-marketing of kerosene, non-
availability of BPL ration cards to the downtrodden,
manufacturing of liquor from jowar and poor condition of
farmers in the country.
