New Delhi: The CPI(M) today said it will
support the Women's Reservation Bill till it is adopted but it
should be passed in the Lok Sabha only after a discussion as
was done in the Rajya Sabha.
"The (Women's Reservation) Bill was passed after full
discussion yesterday (in Rajya Sabha). We want that it should
be passed in the same manner in the Lok Sabha also," CPI(M)
general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here.
He said his party's stand on the Women's Reservation
Bill was "clear and consistent".
"We will continue to support the bill till it is
adopted," he added.
The historic bill granting 33 per cent reservation for
women in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies, which was passed
with two-third majority in Rajya Sabha after high voltage
drama yesterday, led to fresh uproar in the Lok Sabha today.
Members of SP, RJD and JD(U) disrupted Lok Sabha
proceedings for the third day over the bill and the forcible
eviction of their colleagues from the Rajya Sabha.
Virtually no business could be transacted due to
pandemonium in the House, which had to be adjourned twice till
1400 hours and finally for the day when it reassembled. Only
one question could be taken up.
