Kochi: Kerala Government today filed an
appeal in the High Court challenging a single judge`s
direction to hand over investigation into the case relating to
the custodial death of a murder accused to CBI.

The police investigation in the case was going in the right
direction, the government said in its plea.

Sampath, along with two other accused, was arrested from
Coimbatore in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Sheela
for money inside her house in March this year. He died on
March 29 while in police custody.

On a petition by the victim`s brother for a CBI probe, the
court had on May 25 directed the police to handover the case
to the investigating agency.

Yesterday, former Palakaad SP, Vijay Sakre, had also
appealed against the single judge`s decision.

The morale of the local police would be adversely
affected if the case was handed over to CBI, he had said in
his contention.
