Cyber Operation Centres will be set up for threat management and mitigation as part of efforts to protect defence networks from cyber attacks, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley told the Lok Sabha on Friday.

New Delhi: Cyber Operation Centres will be set up for threat management and mitigation as part of efforts to protect defence networks from cyber attacks, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley told the Lok Sabha on Friday.
"Government has taken steps to protect confidential information pertaining to defence sector from cyber attack. Setting up of Cyber Operation Centres has been approved for threat management and mitigation as part of framework for enhancing cyber security of Indian cyberspace," he said.

The Minister was responding to a written query in the Lok Sabha on measures taken by the government to protect leakage of confidential information through cyber attacks.
He said the defence services have also established Cyber Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) to prevent and react to cyber attacks.

"Safeguards have been instituted in the form of audits and physical checks. Policies, guidelines and procedures have been laid down and periodic cyber security advisories are being issued," Jaitley said.

In the last few years, a number of networks and websites of the armed forces have come under attacks from hackers apprently leading to loss of some information.

To a query on whether Gujarat has sent any proposal to the Centre for setting up any defence production unit, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh replied in the negative.
