Nashik: Cine lovers and various cultural
organisations from this holy town paid rich tribute to the
father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke on his 66th death
anniversary here on Tuesday.
Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad, Kusumagraj Pratisthan
were amongst those remembered Dadasaheb by paying floral
tributes at his statue in the premises of the Nashik Municipal
Corporation.
Phalke born in the holy town of Trimbakeshwar near
here on April 30, 1870, made the first Indian movie `Raja
Harishchandra` which was released in May 1913.
After the success of his first movie Phalke went on to
make 47 silent movies including - `Bhasmasur Mohini`,
`Satyavan Savitri`, `Kaliya Mardan`, `Gangavatram`, `Lanka
Dahan` and `Srikrishna Janma`.
The latest popular Marathi movie `Harishchandrachi
Factory` which was registered for the Oscar award is sketched
on the life of Phalke.
As a mark of respect Central Government started the
prestigious award in Phalke`s name in 1969. Many leading film
personalities including Satyajit Ray, Devika rani, Prithviraj
Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand were honoured for
their outstanding contributions in the Indian film world.
Cine lovers visited the Municipal Corporation, where
photographs on the life of Phalke were displayed.
