Dalit MPs oppose Dinakaran impeachment

New Delhi: A section of Dalit MPs belonging to the Congress party have decided to oppose the impeachment motion moved against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice PD Dinakaran, who is facing allegations of misappropriation of assets.

Alleging ‘caste bias’ as the reason behind the move, the Congress MPs are planning to mobilise Dalit MPs belonging to other parties to oppose the motion in Parliament.

The MPs have also sought an audience with party president Sonia Gandhi on this issue.

Praveen Rashtrapal, along with another Congress MP JD Seelam, had raised the Dinakaran issue in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, to which Opposition benches registered strong protests.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari had earlier this week admitted the impeachment notice given by 75 members against Justice Dinakaran over land-grabbing allegations.

The Dalit MPs must ask the MPs who have initiated impeachment motion against Chief Justice Mr Dinakaran that no other Chief Justice of any other High Court of India or any Supreme Court Judge is guilty of the corruption and irregularities that CJ Mr Dinakaran is accused of.. This is required to confirm as to whether CJ Mr Dinakaran is singled out at this stage to stall his promotion to Supreme Court. These Dalit MPs must also raise the valid issue as to why the Govt and Supreme Court Collegium is passing on the buck and are evading the enquiry against CJ Mr Dinakaran.

It is a motivated and slanderous campaign launched against Mr. Dinakaran by a group of lawyers belonging to CPM political party. These CPM lawyers, in the name of some Forum, are systematically tarnished the image of not only Mr. Dinakaran but also the entire judiciary. The very same lawyers were in the forefront in bringing the entire top police force of Tamilnadu to the High Court in the name of excesses, contempt of court, etc. These CPM lawyers have an one-point agenda of stalling Mr. Dinakaran from becoming the SC Judge. Mr. Sitaram Yetchury, Rajya Sabha CPM MP, was in the forefront in collecting the signatures of other MPs in the impeachment motion. How many MPs did really know the case against Mr. Dinakaran? Are they aware of the background and hidden agenda of the CPM lawyers? To certain extent, I fully agree that since Mr. Dinakaran belongs to SC, he has become the soft target of these CPM lawyers. I hope that Truth will prevail and Mr. Dinakaran will come out unscathed and become Supreme Court Judge in the coming months.

Well please do not bring caste bias and save such Bad people.If Dalits go on like this other category people will never start respecting the Dalits.I have faced a lot of situation where I tried to stop them from cheating they threatened me that if I complain they would take it up as ``Caste bias``..for Gods sake please stop such things..

Even if he is guilty of land-grabbing, these dalit MPs say he must not be impeached because he is a dalit !! How does that even change things ? Does a dalit have a different idea of what is right and what is wrong ? Is there a reservation to that as well ?
