`Defence Ministry had warned PMO about poor conditions of submarines`

A day after two Indian officers on INS Sindhuratna submarine lost their lives in an accident, a confidential report by Defence Ministry has reportedly revealed that it had already warned the Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) about the poor conditions of several submarines.

New Delhi: A day after two Indian officers on INS Sindhuratna submarine lost their lives in an accident, a confidential report by Defence Ministry has reportedly revealed that it had already warned the Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) about the poor conditions of several submarines.

The report also mentioned that it feared the state of submarine capability of the country by 2015 leading to concern about the security of the country, as per news report.
The confidential report has come to light after two naval officers - Lieutenant Commander Kapish Munwal and Lieutenant Manoranjan Kumar - lost their lives in a fire incident on INS Sindhuratna. A case of accidental death has been registered by the Mumbai police after the incident.

The submarine was on a routine exercise off the Mumbai coast when smoke was noticed in the sailors compartment.
The bodies of the two missing officers were discovered later.
