New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday announced an award of Rs 2 crore for Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni and Rs 1 crore each for four Delhi players after their historic victory in the World Cup.

"The Chief Minister has decided to honour the Indian captain MS Dhoni by awarding him Rs 2 crore and also decided to give Rs 1 crore each to Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Ashish Nehra for winning the coveted World Cup after 28 years," a Delhi government official said.

Meanwhile, Dikshit congratulated the cricket team for their spectacular performance.

India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the World Cup final in Mumbai last night to lift the coveted trophy which they last won in 1983 under Kapil Dev.

It is the matter of honor that India won Cricker World cup but that doesn`t mean that Government has a right to waste public money to those people who is already making crores of money. Let me tell to every minster this money is not belong to you that you are wasting the money by giving rewards of crores and crores to players to ICC or to BCCI. It is indian`s hard earn money. So stop wasting it on cricket players. And even railway doesn`t have any right to give them life time AC passes.

You have a right to celebrate and congratulate to Indian team for winning world cup. But it is unacceptable the way the government is wasting money of common people on Indian Crikets who are already crorepati in India.

Let me remind to the people and minsters of our nation that poverty, unemployment, illiteracy has not yet terminated from our nation. So be sensible and stop wasting our money.

After all it`s public money being disbursed to make only cricket players more richer, but regretfully govt is not encouraging other sports or spending the required money on it. The result was seen during the CWG. Such attitude spoils nationalism and makes today`s youth to opt only for cricket rather than joining Defence services etc. Vande Mataram...
