London: A traumatised father of the 23-year-old Delhi gang-rape victim wants the world to know his daughter's real name to give courage to other victims while demanding death for all the six accused "beasts".

Following the girl's brutal assault in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, the Indian media has refrained from naming her.

She died on December 29 at a Singapore hospital where she was shifted to from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital in an extremely critical condition.

"We want the world to know her real name. My daughter didn't do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself. I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter," the victim's 53-year-old father told 'The Sunday People', the Daily Mirror's Sunday edition, in his ancestral village in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.

His comments sparked off a debate on the social media. Naming her would give a face to the movement seeking strict laws for crimes against women, a Facebook post said.

Another said, the victim already has several pseudonyms given by the media and the people will fight back.

The newspaper posted the father's picture with his name. It then revealed the victim's name, saying it had the permission of the father.

The father showed the family album with photographs of his daughter smiling. While in some photographs she was wearing traditional saree, in others she was mostly in western clothes.

The newspaper said in deference to the father's wish not to make public her picture, it was not doing so.

Indian law forbids revealing of the name of a rape victim unless her family agrees to it.

Since her death, the girl's family has retreated to their village.

"At first I wanted to see the men responsible face to face but I don't want to any more. I just want to hear that the courts have punished them and they will be hanged," the newspaper quoted the father as saying.

"Death for all six of them. These men are beasts. They should be made an example of and that society will not allow such things to happen," the girl's father said.

The girl's father told the newspaper that the friend of the victim was not her boyfriend, just a very brave friend who tried to save her.

"There was no question of her marrying because we belong to different castes. She never expressed a desire to marry. She was concentrating on her studies and wanted a job first," he said.

The father also revealed that the girl often mentioned how much her friend tried to save her.

"She kept telling her mother he tried his best to help but they kept beating him with a rod," the father said.

DAMINI is the icon of bravery and self esteem. She faught with six beasts attacking her. Her friend is also equally brave who prepared to sacrifice his life for a friend. Both symbolise highest level of civic sense and bravery that is lost today. I think her father is right. Many rape-victims dont come out openly because of the fear. Hence, that fear shall disappear if the true name of Damini is known to all. Further, the Delhi Police filing FIR against Zee News for making the world know about what happened is clear indication of total failure in the police system. Only those who have failed in their duty are likely to hide their failures under such actions. In what way the witness is tampered I cant understand. The boy is a citizen of a democracy where he has every right to express himself openly as long as it is not a danger to our nations security and defame other citizen or harm others. I think he has done a great contribution to our country by highlighting the failure of total system that would lead to the collapse of civil society if not repaired on priority. Our police and politicians should admire him for allround bravery he has exhibited even under mental trauma.

Why is the secretary general of the United Nations making solemn statements about the dreadful incident and murdar of a woman in Delhi? Since when was it the job of the UN to comment on horrific crimes that are uted, not by states or armies or guerrillas, but by a handful of depraved men? Indian Feminists got a great success taking advantage of this incident and showing the entire world that Indian men are devils and now they can create more laws like 498a and DV to harass men.

It is the society which can fight the those who molest or try to molest the women in public places. One suggestion is that socity should honour the braveheart those who rise against atrocities against women and also elect them to parliamentarian institutes.

i think the dead girl`s father wants others to know about her name to show he is brave. some may be worried about this issue. i think it is best the family decides on what they want to do next to fight for peace and justice. i feel pity for the dead girl`s family.

its the public who has to gain courage and fight the criminals if they are one public has to be four. seeing the publics support towards the victim itself make them backoff from doing the crime. its better to be safe than worry

that six people should be hanged, and those people should also hanged who are giving support to such type of people.the girl was very brave and her friend also,we respect both of them , she has gone from the universe but her eyes are still here and they are asking questions from every body ``are you with me to punish all of them those who thrown me into death ?.``.........and we all are standing with her and want justice for her and for every women who face such a horrible crime.

Those culprits, vagabonds and third rate animals in human form deserve severe flogging in public and then thrown back into Tihar jail and then the sequence must be repeated on a daily basis for the rest of their lifetime.

I say that these beasts shouldnt just be hanged . Put them into a cell with other hardened criminals for two weeks and let them be raped and tortured and feel every bit of pain our beautiful sister felt. Let them scream and beg for mercy .They must die a slow and painful death with no one to save them.
