New Delhi: A blame-game has erupted
between Delhi government and the police on the issue of parole
to Jessica Lall murder convict Manu Sharma with the government
saying it followed the procedure for the action and accusing
the police of not informing it about his presence in a bar
here.
The government has submitted a report to Lt Governor
Tejinder Khanna, justifying the parole granted to Sharma
saying it followed all the laid down procedures.
The report said Delhi Police was given "all the parole
conditionalites" and the government could have cancelled the
parole had the police informed it after spotting him at the
bar in Delhi on Saturday, a senior official said.
"It is their fault. They were aware about the parole
conditionalities. Then why did they not inform us after
spotting him at a bar on Saturday? We could have cancelled his
parole," the official said.
The report came in the backdrop of Delhi Police's
claim that it had opposed the parole to Manu Sharma, son of
Haryana Congress leader Venode Sharma.
The report, the official said, also justified the
government's decision to rely on the report given by the
Chandigarh police for granting Sharma parole.
"He is a resident of that town. We have not committed
any wrong by relying on the report of Chandigarh police," the
official said.
A controversy erupted soon after Manu, along with a
friend Sahil Dhingra, was seen at LAP Lounge Bar last week
in violation of his parole norms which prescribed him to be
only in Chandigarh.
