New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday summoned
the Law Secretary of NCT government taking note of
non-appearance of government counsel in several cases before
it.

A Division Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and
Justice Valmiki Mehta sought personal appearance of the Law
Secretary, Government of Delhi, on May 11 and also to know the
reasons for non appearance of the counsel in various cases.

The Bench`s order came while hearing a matter pertaining
to property tax. The case was filed by Delhi International
Airport(P) Ltd(DIAL) against MCD and the Delhi government.

According to DIAL`s counsel Bharat Bhushan Jain, the
Bench`s order came after the counsel for MCD and central
government appeared but the counsel for Delhi government was
not present in the court.

"The court took exception to the fact that despite an
advance copy of the writ petition served to the city
government`s office at Delhi High Court, no counsel was
present in the court for the case...., " added Jain.

The Bench fixed the matter for May 11 for further hearing
of the case.
