Delhi planning corpus fund for journalists in times of need

Delhi Government is considering setting up of a corpus fund of around Rs five crore to provide financial assistance to mediapersons in times of difficulty.



New Delhi: Delhi Government is considering
setting up of a corpus fund of around Rs five crore to provide
financial assistance to mediapersons in times of difficulty.

Announcing this, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the
fund will be utilised for extending support to families of
the journalists in case of sudden death or injury.

"The issue will be discussed in the Cabinet and a final
decision will be taken soon," she said adding that government
was also considering extending the cashless medical facility
to journalists.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a
renovated media facilitation centre at the Delhi Secretariat.

The centre has been renovated at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and
equipped with five computers with internet facility, printers,
faxes, scanners, colour television, radio and a coffee vending
machine.

Dikshit expressed confidence that the new centre will be
able to serve immediate needs of journalists covering Delhi
Government. An LCD projector has also been fitted in the
Centre.
