New Delhi: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh denied reports that he has been removed from his post as Congress’ in-charge of Uttar Pradesh and Assam.

Singh clarification came amid reports, Tuesday, that Congress has replaced him with senior party leader BK Hariprasad as the general secretary in-charge of the two states.

Singh told a news channel that he is in the US in connection with medical treatment of his ailing wife; hence Hariprasad has been given the interim charge of the two states.

Reports of Digvijay’s exit had come a surprise to political observes given his closeness to Rahul Gandhi.

However, it is evident that, lately, the Congress has been uncomfortable with his propensity to make controversial statements despite being warned by the party high command.

He had even rubbed Mamata Banerjee the wrong way during the Presidential poll heat by terming her as "immature" and "erratic" and suggested that there is a "limit" to the patience of the party.

Also, under his stewardship, the Congress had received a drubbing in the UP polls, while in Assam, the party rode back to power for the third time.
