New Delhi: Congress General Secretary
Digvijay Singh on Tuesday dismissed speculation about the
possibility of his entering the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.
"Till 2013, I am out of electoral politics. No and that
too in capital letters", he said when asked about speculation
that he could be the `outsider` taking the Upper House seat
vacated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Reports had it that with Chavan entering the state
legislature unopposed, Congress circles are abuzz with
speculation that an `outsider` like Digvijay Singh could take
his place in the Rajya Sabha.
Singh is a former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister who is
currently looking after the party`s affairs in the crucial
state of Uttar Pradesh where Assembly polls are due next year.
A senior Maharashtra leader said possibilities for
anyone from the state being nominated for the seat in the
Upper House are thin.
Central leaders of the party are making it known that
the Congress needs more experienced and competent leaders in
the Rajya Sabha as the UPA is short of majority in the House.
The name of former Madhya Pradesh PCC Chief Suresh
Pachauri was earlier also doing the rounds for the RS seat
from Maharashtra but Pachauri had ruled that out.
