Bhopal: Ramesh Thete, a dismissed IAS officer of the 1993 batch, who had threatened self-immolation before the Prime Minister's office, Monday withdrew his plan following assurances of his re-instatement.

Thete said from Jabalpur that he had received positive assurances from both New Delhi and Bhopal about his re-instatement.

"The process for my re-instatement has begun and hence there is no need for me to commit self-immolation," Thete said.

The officer was dismissed on bribery charges and had said a few days ago that he would take the extreme step if was not taken back into service.

He said that he had been cleared long back of the bribery charge both by the High Court and the Supreme Court.
