New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday voiced his strong opposition to the plan to include lessons on his struggle in life in school curriculum in BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

PM Modi tweeted: “Am reading in the news that some states want to include Narendra Modi`s life struggles as a part of their school curriculum.”

“I firmly believe that the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum.”

“India has a rich history of several stalwarts who made India what it is today. Young minds should read about these greats & emulate them.” The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat were mulling over a proposal to include `Lessons on the life of Narendra Modi` in school curriculum to "inspire" students.

"We have received suggestions from various quarters that a life-sketch of Modiji be taught in the schools, to inspire students from early age," MP School Education Minister Paras Jain had said.

“These lessons would be taught from standard three to standard six," the Minister said. "Like freedom fighters and other leaders of repute, the life of Modi ji too would inspire the young minds," he said.

Not to be outdone, Modi`s home state Gujarat also mooted a proposal to teach primary school students "leadership" lessons from the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"We have decided to include all important chapters of Modi`s life into the syllabus of primary schools," Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said.

"The chapters may include events starting from his birth, his humble family background, school days, how he faced struggle at different stages of his life and what are the circumstances behind his decision to become a monk," he said. Although several comics on Modi`s life were released in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, the proposal to include his life`s story in school curriculum appears to be a case of misplaced priorities. And, the man in question, Narendra Modi, has himself showed the correct way forward.
