Don’t allow Modi into US: Lawmakers to Clinton

Washington: As Narendra Modi seeks a fresh mandate in Gujarat and also eyes prime ministership, a bipartisan group of 25 US Congressmen has asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to continue denying him visa, claiming he has not adequately pursued justice for victims of the 2002 riots.

"As ... Justice has yet to be fully realised for the victims of the riots, we ask that you continue to deny Mr Modi a visa," the lawmakers from the US House of Representatives said in a letter to Clinton.

Dated November 29, the letter, which comes ahead of the Gujarat polls on December 13 and 17, was released to the press yesterday by Republican Congressman Joe Pitts and Frank Wolf on the eve of their joint press conference at the Capitol Hill with family members of the victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots.

As the Gujarat Chief Minister "continues to pursue a potential run for higher office, we believe a change in policy to his request for a visa will only embolden Modi and his government's efforts to obstruct further investigations ... To bring the perpetrators to justice," the Congressmen said.

India is a thriving democracy, and one that is aspiring to a high standard of leadership and progress, they said. "It is disturbing that certain parties in India are considering elevating Modi, despite his tie to these attacks. Allowing him to enter the United States will only serve to abdicate his responsibility for the 2002 human rights abuses."

Observing that the Bush Administration "rightly denied" Modi a visa, the lawmakers said as he is currently seeking support for a possible bid for prime ministership, including meetings with leaders of foreign nations, "we expect" that he may again request entry into the US.

"We respectfully request that the US government deny Mr Modi entry due to numerous reports of his involvement in horrific human rights violations in India," they said.

The lawmakers noted the State Department has stated that the Gujarat government has not adequately pursued justice for the victims of the 2002 violence.

Leader is ed by the people , reason behind is his work not popularity. Every one has awarness about difficulty to manage is his own home, Society, City, State and Country. If some stick to the past where they don`t know what happend at that time , no one should listen to them. US visa is not so important and not necessary to visit US. Nothing will go wrong. God will run the show. Many people have not visited US and even though all is well. In fact we Indians are don`t want to distrub another country and as well as we do not like any one should distrub India also. World should have SHANTI.

No, we should not forget 1984 riots but we should also not forget 2002 riots and no loss of life can ever be justified be it Hindu Muslim Sikh Esayi.....Mr. Modi is living example of mass murderer whereas for 1984 riots the people in power then, Rajiv Gandhi and Narsimha Rao are no more, they may be answering to God for their sin of 1984.

Excellent move. Modi was complicit in the massacre of thousands of people and should actually be on trial, not gallivanting around the world and getting the support of craven governments.

It is strange to see these pseudo`s are after the soft Hindu targets, they dont have , any say for the free flowing Pakistanis into west who have given the west the 9/11 and us us the 26/11, yet we have all the time to go after Modi and have Sadbhava for the Pakistanis. Then coming to the natives in the sikh riots, and the natives of Assam have been dissimenated, these people fear the Islamic Jehadis and make fun of a few bold Hindu leaders, these people only weaken the Nation.

The United States are making monkey and slip math. At one place fighting with terror at another place they appears with them- its zigzag line will not reach anywhere and one day it will be self defeating. What is going on in Nigeria- Boko Haram, Hamas, Lashkare Toiba, Sikyang, Indonesia. Who is better in Egypt`s Mubarak or Morsi, Assad or new opposition- must have time to think over. Also for covering up their actions, they have state-factors and non-state factors......... Make a uniform code of conduct for handling terrorism which has some visions.

``As ... As long as Modi is is CM no justice can be expected as he has been influencing the investigating agencies. Modi`s minister is in jail for orchestrating the horrific riots, what more proof we need against Modi`s invlovement in the riots.

Americans are concerned on 2002 riots, what they think about riots of 1984, is the sikhs pursued justice. Lawmakers who are urging U S foreign Secretary clinton are biased only, is they urged for denying visa to congress peoples / politicinas who were fully involved in the 1984 riots in India, the biggest in history of inidia.

By the same token, and considering that justice has not yet been doen to 1984 victims, Gandhi family should not be allowed in to the USA. And what about its own issues as in USA repeated attackes are being carried out on non-americans in general and Idians in particular? Are they being taken up as seriously as they should be?

Is Modi asked for VISA recently.?? Then what was reason American poke there nose.......?? Is it to influence election in Gujrath..??or to influence low confidence motion in Loksabha against FDI......??? And if Americans are really worried about 2002 riots then why they are silent on vilonce @ Bahrain where Americans have army base......!! And inocent citizens were shot down who were demanding free and fair elections.........!!I (I was eye witness to this incidence)
