New Delhi: With the Opposition accusing Defence Minister AK Antony of giving a ‘clean chit’ to Pakistan Army over the killing of five soldiers along LoC in J&K, the Congress jumped to his defence on Wednesday .
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “I fail to understand that on the question of Pakistan how the policy of UPA government is different from that of the NDA govt.”
“The policy of countries with regard to foreign policy is an exercise in continuance,” he said.
“I think it will serve all of us that we discuss issues that are sensitive which has a bearing on morale of forces in a responsible manner and try and rise over political differences,” Tewari added.
“It is un fortunate that a difference is being created between defence minister and the defence ministry. The three services are now separate from defence ministry, it is very sensitive matter with far reaching consequences,”” he said
The Defence Minister had said in Parliament on Tuesday that "the ambush was carried out by approximately 20 heavily-armed terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army Uniforms."
Minutes before Antony`s statement in Parliament, a press release sent by the Defence Ministry said, "Pak Border Action Team attacked Indian Soldiers" indicting the Pakistani Army.
