New Delhi, July 07: Delhi Police's ambitious project of an e-traffic system and a cyber highway connecting police stations will first cover localities connected with next year's Commonwealth Games, the government said on Tuesday.

"A scheme 'Developing of Traffic and Communication Network in NCR and Mega Cities and Model System of Traffic Management' has been included for implementation in 11th Five Year Plan with a provision of Rs 200 crore," Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullapally Ramachandran told the Lok Sabha.

The scheme is proposed to be implemented in the areas connected with Commonwealth Games in the first phase and the Home Ministry has sanctioned Rs.5.07 crores to MTNL for carrying out the pre-investment activity, he informed the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour.

The scheme has two components -- introduction of an Intelligent Traffic System and setting up of an Integrated Data Communication Network (Cyber Highway).

The proposed cyber highway will be the primary source of connectivity of Delhi Police Headquarters, DCP offices, police stations, police posts and field units.

The cyber highway will be used for connectivity for video conferencing, inventory management system, CCTVs, web-based dossier system, automatic finger and palm print identification system, IP telephony, internal e-mail system, and command and control system for CWG.
