Kanpur: A 61-year-old trader was found dead outside his residence here today with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide over an alleged feud with his wife while his family claimed it to be a case of robbery and murder.

Police said preliminary enquiry suggests that Premnarayan Gupta allegedly committed suicide by jumping from his third floor apartment in Collectorganj area. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, they added.

However, his family claimed that some robbers had barged into the house and threw Gupta out of the balcony when he tried to stop them from looting the house.

The police, however, dismissed the claim saying their forensic team found the house in order with no sign of any robbery to have been taken place.

According to the police, Gupta and his wife used to regularly fight which might have been a reason for Gupta to take the extreme step.

Further investigation is on in the case and police is questioning the family members, a police official said, adding Gupta`s body had been sent for post-mortem.
