Sagar: Eunuch Kamla Bua's election to the Mayoral post has been challenged in a local court here on grounds that she was neither a member of scheduled caste community nor she had furnished adequate proof in this regard to the election officer.

Former Burhanpur Municipal Commissioner Mahendra Rai has challenged her elections stating that she was neither a member of scheduled caste community, nor she had furnished sufficient papers to back her claim of being a member of reserved category to the election officer.

The post of Sagar Mayor was reserved for a woman of scheduled caste community.

The petition against Kamla Bua was filed on January 1 in district court here and is scheduled to be heard tomorrow, a day before she swears-in as the Sagar Mayor.

This is for the second time that the election of a eunuch elected Mayor on reserved seats had been challenged in Madhya Pradesh.

Before Bua, her namesake Katni's Mayor eunuch Kamla Mausi's election was challenged on the ground that she was a male and had contested polls for the seat reserved for a woman candidate.

Kamla Mausi's election in 1999 civic polls as an Independent candidate were set aside by the court after she was found to be a male.
