New Delhi: Family of late Prime Minister V P Singh, former Union Ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Jagdish Tytler and Renuka Chowdhary and eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani are among 22 "unauthorised" occupants of government bungalows.

The Central Public Works Department has given a list of unauthorised occupants of government bungalows in a RTI reply to activist S C Agrawal on February 18 which includes some famous names of former ministers, lawyers and MPs.

The list of 22 also has the names of former Congress MP Saleem Sherwani who is occupying a bungalow in posh Lodhi Estate and former Union Minister Ashwini Kumar who has not vacated his bungalow in the same area, according to the reply.

For vacating their accommodation, the department gives one month's from the date of declaration of election results to MPs who could not make it to the House but many of the former MPs like Ram Vilas Paswan, Renuka Chowdhary and Jagdish Tytler are still holding on to their houses.

Also in the list of unauthorised occupants is the name of former NCW member Manju Hembram.

PP TALWAR - India
The continued unauthorised occupation of posh Government bungalows, flats and other accommodation by the Ex Ministers, MPs, lawyers and bureaucrats is not only an act of high-handedness, it also sets a wrong precedence. While, an ordinary government servant, in the event of becoming an unauthorised occupant of his government accommodation is penalised heavily, even dragged to the court of law, it is strange that to uphold the government rules for the allotment of government bungalows, central government is unable to evict the big-wigs who are continuously clinging on to the posh bungalows, unauthorisedly, in violation of the government rules. Since no one is above the law of the land, strict measures for the eviction of the govt. bungalows/accommodation be taken earnestly.
