New Delhi: The Defence Ministry is expecting
Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor to take a "responsible
decision" on the fate of military secretary Lt Gen Awadesh
Prakash, who has been indicted in the Sukhna land scam.
"We think the Army Chief is aware of that and we are sure
that he will take a responsible decision on it," a senior
official in the Ministry said today when asked about its view
on the scam in which an adverse recommendation has reportedly
been given to Gen Kapoor and reports that Prakash would be
given an "honourable exit" as his retirement is imminent.
He said the Army Chief had received recommendations of
Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen V K Singh on the issue around
December 22. Lt Gen Singh has reportedly recommended sacking
of Prakash after a Court of Inquiry headed by Tezpur-based 4
Corps Commander Lt Gen K T Parnaik was completed.
Prakash, who is set to retire on January 31, was being
probed for his role in issuing a No Objection Certificate to a
private establishment that falsely claimed to be establishing
an affiliate of the famed Ajmer-based Mayo College in the
piece of land adjacent to Sukhna Cantonment in West Bengal.
