Expert panel to meet on Kudankulam row today Chennai: The Central government-appointed expert group is scheduled to have its fourth round of talks on Tuesday with representatives of villagers opposing the upcoming Kudankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu.

However, indications coming from the area suggest that talks are likely to collapse.

On the eve of the crucial talks, anti-nuclear activists said their representatives would not engage in any dialogue, despite promising their attendance.

"We will go to the meeting tomorrow, but we will not engage in any dialogue with them. We will only demand that they have to talk to our people within a radius of 30 km (around the Plant) and to our expert panel," M Pushparayan, a representative of the protestors in the expert panel formed by the State government, said.

"We are not going to make any other fresh demands. They have earlier called our safety concerns unfounded. Then, how can you expect them to take our other concerns. We will receive reports, if any, they give," he added.

Asked whether they were planning to boycott the meeting, he said, "The state government has arranged for the meeting. We respect the move and will attend" it.

Earlier today, the anti-nuclear activists led by Peoples Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) leader S P Udayakumar staged a mock funeral of the controversial project, 'cremating' its model in Kudankulam.

The previous three rounds of talks between the panels held on November 7, 18 and December 15 last year failed to make any headway towards commissioning of the first unit at the KNPP as local people protesting against the project were not satisfied with the answers given by the expert group to their queries.

The Indo-Russian joint venture ran into trouble with activists and local people going on protest citing safety concerns in the wake of the Fukushima disaster in Japan early last year.

10 Nuclear Power Plants have been Planned in Koodankulam. 1 plant has been completed. Another 1plant work has started. So totally these 2 plant only can be allowed in Koodankulam. The other planned Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Power Plants can be shifted 2 each to Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa, Chattisgarh, Jharkand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh etc. For example in states many available lakes or artificial lakes created slight diversion of Rivers are available in Uninhabited/Less Inhabitated Areas and many Inland Nuclear Power Plants, like USSR, USA, Europe, Rajasthan etc. Also 80 to 90 % Power should be given to these respective states where Nuclear power is generated, since they take the risk of Nuclear Problems. Also the People residing around say 20 to 30 Kms should be given Minimum Rs.1 Crore for rehabilitation (House, Employment etc) for Ordinary workers and Many amount more for those who have more properties.

The First question to be asked to the Indian Government is are we well equipped to handle nuclear disasters? In my opinion, we are not. We all remember the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and the perpetrators are still not brought to justice. This shows the ineffciency and the inability of the Indian Government and judciary. This also shows how influential we are in the International Scene. I think India will take another 2 decades to adopt the technology of Nuclear disaster management. Till then we can wait. Lets not forget our weaknesses and lets start working on them. Rather than believing the Economic Power theory of the Indian Politicians and the Media. This decison on nculear plant is concerned with people`s future and health and the history of India`s politics shows lack of concern towards both.
