Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government
today demanded the Centre to extend last day of submitting
passports for Haj pilgrims and implement system of issuing
special international passports.
"We have requested the Extenral Affairs Minister to
introduce system of issuing special international passport for
Haj pilgrims and to extend the last date of submitting
passports," PWD Minister and chairman state Haj Committee
Naseemuddin Siddiqui said here.
He expressed displeasure over delay in issuance of
passport to the Haj pilgrims.
"Passports are to be issued to 27,845 Haj pilgrims
this year. However, only 1516 passports had been issued so
far," he alleged.
The minister said that the special passport cell has
not made computer entry of 7575 applications received till May
31, despite the fact that all formalities were complete.
"The system of issuing special passport, which is
issued within 15 days of application without police report
should be introduced," he demanded.
He has directed police department to verify
applications of the Haj pilgrims on priority and submit its
report to the passport office at the earliest.
He has also directed the Haj office to accept
application forms of the pilgrims without passport.
