Fast Breeder Reactor to be delayed by a year: Chavan

India`s Fast Breeder Reactor for commercial nuclear energy generation is likely to be delayed by a year, the Lok Sabha was told today.

New Delhi: India`s Fast Breeder Reactor
for commercial nuclear energy generation is likely to be
delayed by a year, the Lok Sabha was told today.

The reactor is likely to start operation by March
2012, Minister for Science and Technology and Earth sciences
Prithviraj Chavan said in a written reply.

The raft which supports the civil structure was
severely affected due to tsunami in 2004 and it needs to be
reconstructed, he said.

The Indian industries carried out a number of mock up
on civil and mechanical works to meet the stringent technical
specifications, he said.
